Frequently Asked Questions

By switching to organic, natural skincare and make-up products, you are actually protecting your entire organism from the harmful chemicals added to conventional cosmetic products.

  1. What does organic mean?

There are several definitions of the term “organic”. For us at BEYØRG it means that the ingredients are obtained directly from plants that have been grown without chemical pesticides or fertilisers, and have been prepared without synthetic preservatives or additives. Some of our brands are labelled “natural” which means they are sourced partly from conventional farming. Some contain a certain amount of organic ingredients but no product at BEYØRG ever contains any of the following nasties listed under the “hidden dangers of cosmetics”.

  2. Are the products efficient and are there visible results? How long do they last?

For starters, our skin is designed to recognise matter from nature, so natural ingredients are accepted by our skin cells more readily than the artificial compounds found in conventional cosmetics. Our skin fails to recognise chemical ingredients, and dedicates its energy to fighting them off. Our natural and organic products are powered by seed oils, botanical extracts and sea algae, rich in natural peptides, potent antioxidants and essential fatty acids, all of which are 100% compatible with the body, optimising the skin’s ability to strengthen and repair itself.

BEYØRG’s cosmetics feed the skin with natural minerals, vitamins, natural oils and acids. The skin is therefore provided with foods that encourage its natural processes of renewal and hydration, both essential for a youthful, fresh complexion.

  3. Are they easily absorbed?

Yes. Due to their natural base, organic creams and lotions are more readily absorbed by the skin, and this increases the regenerative process and improving pH balance and resulting in healthy glowing skin.

  4. Can I expect an adverse reaction when I change to natural and organic products?

It depends on what you have been using. If you have been using a skincare line that contains synthetic chemicals, parabens and PEGs, the skin can harbour the toxins that are accumulated through the chemical exposure. Conventional products are full of emulsifiers and silicones - the common use of silicones is to make the skin feel hydrated, but at the cost of slowing down the skin’s own production of moisture such as hyaluronic acid. Once you have found a suitable natural or organic skincare line, there comes a period of transition, where the skin might go through a skin-detox. This may lead to a few breakouts during the first month because natural ingredients encourage the purging of toxins that have been accumulating in the skin from the former synthetic skincare. With a little patience you will soon see good results – remember that the epidermis, the skin’s top layer, takes 28-30 days to renew itself. But your patience will be rewarded with radiant, healthy skin.

  5. Are the products tested on animals?

No, never, because at BEYØRG we believe that animals should never be sacrificed or used for testing beauty products.

  6. How do you make sure the products are hypoallergenic?

Hypoallergenic cosmetics are products that manufacturers claim produce fewer allergic reactions. Consumers with hypersensitive skin, and even those with "" normal "" skin, may be led to believe that these products will be gentler than non-hypoallergenic cosmetics. We at BEYØRG believe – as many dermatologists do – that the term "" hypoallergenic "" has very little meaning and is often used in promoting cosmetic products to consumers in order to create a solution for a non-existing problem. If your skin is sensitive and tends to react then you have to find a line with ingredients that suit your skin type.

  7. How long is the shelf life of natural and organic cosmetics?

It is true that, without chemical preservatives such as parabens, the shelf-life of natural and organic beauty products is shorter. But even so, depending on the category, products are good from six months up to one year after opening. Please check the ‘Best Before’ date on both the outer box and the base of the bottle or jar before use.

  8. Since the products are natural and organic, do I have to refrigerate them?

The products have different packaging designs to protect them: glass bottles have coatings for UV protection; pumps are made so that air cannot enter the product; natural organic oils are used as preservatives. We recommend that products are kept away from sunlight and humidity, and that a spatula is used rather than a finger for jar products. Products may be kept at room temperature, but if refrigerated they are surely more refreshing given Hong Kong’s trying climate.

  9. Can I wear make-up over organic products?

You can, but may we suggest you go organic with your make-up too? Organic or mineral make-up, especially products that come in direct contact with the skin such as eye shadows and lipsticks, make for an equally good appearance as conventional make-up without the risk of infection or poisoning your body with chemicals.

  10. Are organic skincare products good for skin diseases such as neuro-dermatitis?

Yes, they are. Natural and organic cosmetics feed the skin because they contain completely natural minerals, vitamins, oils and acids. Understanding how the skin functions means you are right to be concerned about the possible long-term effects of the chemicals combined in cosmetics. This is often termed the "" chemical cocktail effect"". Several chemicals used in conventional cosmetics are known irritants and carcinogens. Most of these ingredients are derived synthetically or from petroleum. By avoiding such substances, you decrease your overall exposure to harmful and irritating cosmetic ingredients that can stress the skin, and especially in troubled skin conditions like psoriasis and neuro-dermatitis.

  11. Is organic skincare more expensive?

The production, as well as the ingredients of an organic product, are more costly and that is reflected in the price. If you compare prices you will notice that while organic skincare lines may be more costly, all is relative to its ingredients and the superior quality of the product. Conventional cosmetics on the other hand may cost less, but they may also cost far more without any justification for the high price. Pricing is arbitrary, and the production of the designer bottle often costs more than the product that it contains.

It is worthwhile paying for the quality and safety of organic products.

    1. The product formula is sophisticated skin science, unlike conventional cosmetics.
    2. The ingredients are of proven optimum quality, and are at least 1.5 to twice as expensive as non-organic options.
    3. The manufacturing process is more costly. Many organic lines are purposely made in small batches to ensure freshness, and this affects the cost of the product.
  12. Why do organic products sometimes vary in colour, scent or texture?

This is, in truth, a very good sign. Natural ingredients are not standardised and uniformly mass-produced the way synthetic ones are. Our natural oils and other ingredients are harvested from different farms at different times of the year and this may affect the colour, scent and even the feel of a product. Like fine vintage wines, each fragrance blend is as unique as the year’s plant harvests.

Natural and organic products smell natural and have milder scents because they contain the essential oils which are used in aromatherapy. Rather than being overpowering or even irritating, the smell of natural products is relaxing and healing. Conventional cosmetics, unlike organic products, are manufactured with chemicals and are artificially scented in order to mask the otherwise unpleasant smell of the ingredients. Such strong smells can be very irritating especially for those who suffer from asthma, sinusitis, migraines and breathing problems.

  13. How do organic products fight against aging?

Good organic cosmetics are all about performance. Thanks to the precious and pure components in natural and organic products, the skin is not assaulted with chemical additives, but nourished and energised as Nature intended. And that will make the skin youthful and glowing.

In our opinion the best revenge against time is to age beautifully. There’s no doubt that the ideal way to maintain youthful skin is prevention: avoiding smoking, pollution and the sun; selecting and eating quality organic foods that feed the skin the anti-oxidants it needs. But no matter what you eat or your genetic heritage, it is also important to keep the skin hydrated and to protect it from the damage caused by environmental influences. In order to support your healthy lifestyle you can find the right anti-aging products to help regenerate and boost the health of your skin.

  14. Why do some of your ingredients sound unnatural?

All ingredients are given their Latin, INCI name (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) as required by legislation. Please visit our ingredients page for more information. It will provide information about their use and will provide their common names and sources. The ingredients in our products that ‘sound unnatural’ are from natural sources, for example Cocamidopropyl Betaine, which is derived from coconut sugar, and Decyl Glucoside which derives from corn and coconut.

  15. How to choose Beauty Products during Pregnancy?

According to a study by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), an average of 200, up to a staggering 287, industrial chemicals and pollutants were found in the umbilical cord blood of the new born babies they tested. Chemical exposure in the womb or during infancy can be much more damaging than exposure later in life. That is why it is important to choose skincare products that are free from synthetic chemicals.

At BEYØRG, we adhere to our definition of “Organic” and “Natural” – starting from the transparency of the source of our ingredients. The “Organic” ingredients of our products are derived directly from plants that have been grown without chemical pesticides or fertilisers, and have been processed without synthetic preservatives or additives, resulting in purer, healthier and more nutritious products and with third-party organic certification.  The “Natural” ingredients of our products use nature's most precious raw materials either grown or exist in the nature, for example, at high altitudes or in the ocean or from farming (a lot of the brands we handpick use crops from their own farms). Our bottom-line is: the products at BEYØRG never contain any of the following nasties listed under the “hidden dangers of cosmetics”. We promise worry-free skincare products catering to the special needs of your beautiful journey of pregnancy. Hence, we have hand-selected products that are certified organic or certified natural without synthetic additives or any ingredients that are known to pose possible risks during pregnancy, most importantly liked by many mothers.

On top of that, all of the ingredients in our products are listed on our product pages under the “Ingredient” section. With the transparency of ingredients, we want to make sure you can make an informed decision for the products you choose to use during pregnancy. We recommend you consult your doctor or midwife, as they have the professional expertise and the knowledge of your condition. As everyone is different and pregnancy adds another layer of sensitivity to the skin, we recommend you do a patch test of skincare products beforehand to ensure no allergic reaction.
